Research Awards Given By The Dudley Observatory
Over the years Dudley Observatory has developed a series of awards, that
provide financial support for researchers in the fields of astronomy,
astrophysics and the history of astronomy.
These are listed briefly below, with links to pages giving fuller
descriptions:
Pollock Award
The Herbert C. Pollock Award, given annually in support of a research
project in the history of astronomy or astrophysics. The Award is named in honor
of Dr. Pollock, a physicist who was
a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of Dudley Observatory as well as past
President of the Board. The maximum award is $5,000.
Fullam Award
The Ernest F. Fullam Award, given annually in support of a research
project in astronomy or astrophysics. The Award is named in honor of Mr. Fullam,
an electron microscopist now an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees, Dudley
Observatory. The maximum award is $10,000.
Bergan Award
The Judge Francis Bergan Award, given from time to time to provide
some startup funds for research for new faculty members starting academic
careers in astronomy, astrophysics, or earth sciences. The Award honors the late
Judge Francis Bergan, a 55 year member of the Board of Trustees. Limited to
institutions in the State of New York. Usually one award is made, in an amount
up to $8,000.
Educational grants
supporting camperships to astronomy and space camps are also give to high
school students in the Capital Region of New York State.
