Exhibit 2001 Palomar

National Geographic Society

National Geographic Society - Palomar Observatory Sky Atlas (PSS)

Pasadena, California Institute of Technology, 1954-1958.

These photos, which include the belt stars and the Orion nebula, show two of the 936 star fields covered by the Palomar Sky Survey, produced from 1949 to 1958 using the 48 inch Schmidt telescope on Mt. Palomar, California. The entire sky above declination &endash;33 degrees was shown to a much greater distance into space than had been possible with previous photographic surveys.

Can you match the stars in this photograph with those in any of the other charts on display?
