Bonner Durchmusterung, Sudlicher Teil
Bonn, F. Dummlers, 1965.
Friedrich Wilhelm August Argelander, 1799-1935, a German astronomer who worked in Finland and Prussia, produced the most important sky survey of the 19th century, the Bonner Durchmusterung (Bonn Sky Survey), first published from 1859-1862. It indicates the location of more than 300,000 stars, including the ones shown here in the vicinity of Orion. It has long remained of value to astronomers, and continued to be reprinted through the 20th century. This is a 1965 edition.
Can you find the belt stars (only two are visible) and the sword of Orion at the very top in the center? What other patterns can you make from these stars?
