The Alphonsine Tables, prepared for King Alfonso X of Castile in the 13th century, were among the most accurate tables of the positions of the planets ever prepared using the earth-centered approach. This 1492 edition is the oldest book in the Dudley Observatory collection.

Marginal notes, as shown on this pages of tables, are a common feature of early scientific books. The notes can show changing acceptance of scientific ideas and even help historians trace the ownership of individual books.
