Educational Outreach Consultant

The Dudley Observatory seeks a part-time educator during a period of dynamic growth and change.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about astronomy and science education, and have excellent communication skills.

Title:  Educational Outreach Consultant

Basic Function
Operate portable planetarium, coordinate, design and present astronomy programs to school districts and other educational organizations.  Carry out the primary day-to-day operations and evaluation of the service.

Responsibilities

• Maintain ongoing communication with administrators and teachers who request service
• Present and evaluate astronomy and astronomy-related programs for K-12 audiences
• Maintain portable planetarium equipment in good working order and keep track of materials to support programs.
• Assist staff in promoting and marketing programs to prospective audiences

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of astronomy
• Experience teaching K-12 audiences
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school district personnel
• Ability to work independently and problem-solve
• Able to lift and carry planetarium equipment and work in all kinds of facilities
