Astronomy Day

Astronomy Day

Albany Astronomy Day
Saturday, May 2, 2009

Astronomy Day was such a huge success that it lasted all weekend!

A reception on Friday evening celebrated the opening of an exhibit at the Albany Heritage Visitors Center. It commemorates the groundbreaking for the Henry Hudson Planetarium during the 350th anniversary of Henry Hudson's arrival, and the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Dudley Observatory's southern observatory in San Luis, Argentina. The exhibit continues through June.

On Saturday, the festivities continued with safe solar observing and planetarium shows.  Star parties during the evening allowed people to see telescope views of Mercury, the moon, and other celestial wonders.

The weekend ended with a "How to use your Telescope" program.

Thanks to all who shared their expertise and services:
Albany Area Amateur Astronomers
Albany Heritage Visitors Center and Henry Hudson Planetarium
Dudley Observatory and Rising Star Interns
Hirsch Observatory at RPI
Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium
Union College Observatory

The weather WILL be getting nicer, so look up while you're strolling under the stars on balmy spring evenings!

Clear Skies,
