ALBANY HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER VINCENT AMODEO ELECTED PRESIDENT OF DUDLEY OBSERVATORY, EMPHASIZES DUDLEY’S SCIENCE EDUCATION MISSION
Annual elections of Officers were held on January 13, 2009 at a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Vincent Amodeo, Albany High School Science Teacher, was elected to the position of President of the Dudley Board. Mr. Amodeo has been a Trustee for two years and has been an active member of the Education Committee and, in addition, chairs the Curriculum Committee. The election of Mr Amodeo, the first public school teacher to serve President, underscores Dudley’s primary mission in science education.
Alan French, an active member of the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers was
re-elected to the position of Vice President. Michael Kornstein, an attorney with Cooper Erving & Savage, was elected to the position of Secretary. Vincent Maine, Vice President with Key Bank, was elected to hold the position of Treasurer and Jim Comly, a retiree from GE Global Research, will be taking the Assistant Treasurer position.
The Dudley Observatory has been supporting research and education in astronomy and the history of astronomy for over 150 years. While celebrating the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009), which commemorates the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope, we will promote a greater appreciation of the inspirational aspects of astronomy while stimulating interest in astronomy and science under the central theme "The Universe, Yours to Discover".
